Mosaico Egipcio

1990
Watercolor center framed with a hand painted wood frame.
Done for the Small Works exhibit at Valencia Community College.

I have always been obsessed with nature. Having grown up in a Dominican countryside, we had plenty of it around us. Bugs of all kinds, snakes (non poisonous, by the way), and everything you could think of. By an early age, my brother and I could identify most of the things around us: bugs, animals, plants, trees, and knew which ones meant harm to us. We climbed many trees looking for ripe fruits in season and that almost always put us in direct contact with all sorts of things that were after the same. My brother Pico ended up in animal husbandry, caring for the animals. I ended up in art, painting them.

By the way, I have let the frame deteriorate through the years. Thought it added a more realistic, old Egyptian feeling to it.
